8 of 100 Ideas: World Peace

If for some reason I was giving a Miss Universe speech.. in an actual Miss Universe scenario, (as opposed to a drunken phone call), the last thing I would wish for would be World Peace. World peace is beyond a cliché. What does it even mean? Really? The eradication of the human race would bring about world peace pretty quickly, but I doubt that would be a popular method. Oh, you meant different cultures/nationalities living side by side holding hands and singing? Ain’t gonna happen sweet heart, I’m sorry. Because

1) Western culture is generally too homophobic to have groups of guys holding hands and sing.

and 2) before the world can be at peace with each other, we have to be at peace with ourselves.

So for a Miss Universe contestant to wish for World Peace is particularly ironic (or apt), as I can only imagine a person who is extremely not at peace with themselves would volunteer to be judged on whether they are the ideal woman to represent the universe based on how good they look in a bikini.

I honestly believe that all the worlds problems would be solved if everyone just understood themselves and were at peace with themselves. If you’re at peace with yourself, you know who you really are, what you really want, and don’t care about what other people will think when you go and get what you want. I think it’s in trying to meet other peoples’ expectations that we do shitty things, or go down wrong paths in life.

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”  –  Bruce Lee

So, forgetting about reversing global warming, crime, whatever, I think it’s everyones responsibility to find out who they really are deep down inside, and be who you are. After that, the rest will take care of itself. If we just stopped shitting on each other, expecting other people to do shit for us, and just took care of ourselves and then one another, the world will be alright.
